We believe in CIVICS education. According to the Delaware League of Women Voters, CIVICS is “the study or science of the privileges and obligations of citizens. A CIVICS education is the study of the theoretical, political and practical aspects of citizenship…its rights and duties.” 

Last year, American voters again, mistakenly, elected Donald Trump, an egocentric reality television charlatan, as President of the United States. Millions of ill-informed citizens stuck within Fox holes refused to listen to any COMMUNICATION outside their narrowly defined universe of perverse blogs and cable television. To this day, they know not what they have done, and - until enough Republican Congressmen and Senators grow spines and admit their insanity of fealty - the freedom of speech that media opinion editors have, the reporting of truth in the news, - in fact -  all free COMMUNICATION, is on their radar to influence and control. The founders of Ethical Government Now have both rural and urban backgrounds. While our hometown community is Millbrook in New York’s historic Hudson Valley, our goal is to establish an influential online COMMUNITY of millions of liberal Americans who embrace a pluralist ideology.

We believe that SCOTUS was totally wrong in their conservative 5/4 Citizens United vs U. S. Federal Elections Commission decision. We believe that a CORPORATION is not a citizen and that the new powers that CORPORATIONS, billionaires and oligarchs derived from that single 2010 SCOTUS decision (also overturning prior SCOTUS precedent) ruined American democracy since. Logically,  most CORPORATIONS are organized for profit, but we believe that there must be regulations that limit the worst excesses of corporate capitalism such as: hundreds of millions in opaque Corporate PAC donations, rapacious bank and credit card fees, unrelenting personal data capture, etc. If we the people don’t stand up, where will it end? CULTURE is a short word with one of the most complex meanings known to humankind. Wikipedia’s explanation of CULTURE covers twelve single-spaced pages, plus eight pages of References and says that CULTURE is a concept that encompasses the social behavior, institutions, and norms found in human societies, as well as the knowledge, beliefs, arts, laws, customs, capabilities, attitudes, and habits of the individuals in these groups. CULTURE also originates from, or may be attributed to, a specific region or location. CULTURE is multi-layered, from Earth’s smallest native tribes to its largest national, social, political, and religious groups and everything in between. Helpful to an understanding of what the word CULTURE means is to have inclusive, pluralistic beliefs of the ever-integrating nature of one’s own and others’ CULTURE(s).

Yet, it is apparent that the waves and currents of cultural clashes create dangerously internecine divides among people that seem to, inevitably, become political. Divides now devolve from the cultural choices we’ve made in the television, internet, podcast, and blog era we exist within. Have the worlds of professional sports, reality television, game shows and The Apprentice, overwhelmed our foundational CULTURE of reading, of the classic arts, of thought, of philosophical debate, of law, of fairness, of friendship, of truth itself? The various backgrounds of individual and ultimately group CULTURE are perhaps the fundamental complicating factor of our age. In 1985, author Neil Postman gave early warning of the dangers that awaited us in the coming breakdown of reason in his succinct book AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH. Honestly, we can’t!  Our organization and online home are based on dozens of positive things and, yes, a few negatives. We’re socially liberal, fiscally conservative and politically independent. We see ourselves as America's long term “Third Way” : inclusive, pluralistic, ethical, honest, neighborly, trustworthy, patriotic and morally anchored in culture and history. We believe in taking a stand for all of the above in government, but we're also against deficit spending, except in instances of serious pandemic, economic crisis or armed conflict.

 We recognize that there are serious structural flaws in the way our Republic functions, for which, we stand for both short term and long term change like rotating term limited SCOTUS appointments, the obviously outdated Electoral College, blanket Presidential immunity, SCOTUS’ terrible decision Citizens United vs the U.S. opaque funded PACS, anti-voter empowered gerrymandering. In contrast, we are very much in favor of future proportional voting for the election of all congressional members.

Daily, it becomes more obvious that America is losing Democracy under Trump, thanks to the total fealty to him of what was the former Republican Party.  We quote Steve Schmidt in THE WARNING:

Doing NOTHING is clearly the opposite of doing something; however, there are times when pledging to do NOTHING can be powerful. Example: Suppose you pledged never to buy anything made in Russia if Russia did not entirely withdraw from Ukraine? In other words, you pledge inaction as a direct cost to Russian imperialism. The same is even more essential as a threat to Chinese imperialism, especially if enough of the world pledges to never buy anything again fabricated in China if the CCCP invades Taiwan.

"Out of many, one" translates from the Latin phrase E PLURIBUS UNUM, which, since 1776, is the official motto of the United States, signifying that the nation was formed from many different states coming together as one entity; essentially meaning "unity from diversity." What does it mean to be Ethical? Ethics comes from the Greek ethos,"moral character" and describes a person or behavior as true in the moral sense - truthful, fair, and honest.

The Oxford Dictionary defines FEAR as “the belief that someone or something is dangerous and likely to cause pain, or a threat”. However, FEAR is a lot more than that: FEAR’s similar terms are terror, horror, alarm, panic, agitation, dread, distress, anxiety, worry, unease, apprehension, nervousness, unrest, misgiving, doubt, and suspicion.

FEAR is also the motivating emotional hammer of all authoritative dictators who, degradingly and repetitively, deploy it against elected members of their own party to force them to support their party’s line. There are many legitimate fears: loss of our freedoms, family, mobility, privacy, community, mortality, memory money, worldly goods and jobs.

According to a recent Gallup Poll, HOPE is the most important thing Americans, and the world, want most. 58% of respondents placed HOPE first, with 33% having placed TRUST first. Sadly, Donald J. Trump has always been a mendacious charlatan. Fools know not what he has done, and a large number of Trump’s fools will soon learn that their votes were wrong, and their money will be diminished. Is America’s two-party political system an artificial construct? Yes. The Founders never wanted, nor anticipated, such evolution. Both parties long ago lost their most important asset: TRUST. The Republican Party is a zombie, walking as Trump + sycophants, morally dead, but it cannot allow or admit its demise. The Democratic Party has lost its way, unable to recover from the extraordinary traitorous acts of fulcrum villain Mitch McConnell for his extraordinary withholding of normal votes for two Democratic Presidential SCOTUS’ nominations. Then there is his abject failure in preventing the Senate from completing the totally justified Trump Impeachment trial after January 6, 2021. 

Lacking voter trust on both sides, the flow from party loyalty to the number of registered Independents continues to grow.  In most states, this means fewer and fewer Independent voters are able to vote in major party primaries, so the internal distillation process of  selecting the most exceptional candidates for general elections is failing.  Whether Democrat or Republican, the great two party divide has led us down, not up. 

It is an ongoing fermenting mosaic. And as long as we’re forced to vote in this dichotomy/dilemma of Republican and Democrat without having a better result through preferential voting, that won’t change.
